Incase you are not following transit trash girl on Instagram, (which I will explain where the name came from later in the series), or if you want to see more photos from our Cross Country Trip, here is the start of our Conversion Van Adventure, The Road Trip Series.
It all started with an idea that "when not working on the weekend, we head out and explore the Great Country we live in". No more Saturday chores and grocery shopping, time is too valuable, too much to see. No worries, I do chores and grocery shop. Although I love the great outdoors, I do have a problem with tent sleeping, not my thing, I need comfort :) With my 4Runner lease ending it was time to look around at options. With having to carry around a lot of camera gear, a van would be ideal. Why not make it multi purpose. Looking at Class B camper vans, ended up being a bit pricey for us. Not to get discouraged, we thought maybe, why not... buy a Ford Transit van and convert ourselves? Maybe... because we have never done anything like that before, crazy idea. But, I'm sure you know, with YouTube and a gozillian "how to" videos you can basically learn and do anything. So that is exactly what Ed did. We bought an empty Ford Transit Van and Ed made the rest of it come to life. A nice comfy bed (of course), kitchen sink and burner, hot water, shower that attaches out back in a shower tent, cabinets, lighting, and plenty of room for camera gear measured to perfection. It's great for outdoor shoots, people can change clothes in it and, if in need of a rest room, yes, there is a way. Helped me out plenty of times on the road :) Although, I was a bit worried about how it would drive, but I have to say, I love it! I still have trouble parking, so, very end of the parking lot, and I get a walk in. Perfect.
Here are a few build out photos of Ed converting the van. Then you will see where our adventure took us. FYI- a lot of info came from Far Out Ride
